黑鳥島
講述的是一國兩制社會下人口換血中暗藏的一種焦慮,以鴿為寄喻。嚴瑞芳訪問本地賽鴿達人,追查禽流感後禁售鴿的政策下活鴿的蹤跡,意外的發現1997年一宗「萬鴿慶回歸」的事件,以及考察野鴿現時停留的地方偶然的地緣關聯。
這種關聯在嚴瑞芳挖掘鴿在港的歷史中,好比由鳥和人的視覺出發的一段對話,運用平行剪接的拍攝手法,創作結合田野考察、訪問,以及聯想的半虛構式敘事體,側寫一段關於地方的身份認同、心理狀態與想像的影片。

Sound from the north
Employing pigeons as a metaphor, Black Bird Island portrays an anxiety hidden in the population transference under the ‘one country, two systems’ policy. Yim Sui-fong interviewed a local expert in racing pigeons and traced the whereabouts of live pigeons after the introduction of pigeon sales prohibition resulted from avian flu. In the process, she discovered unexpectedly an event celebrating the handover of Hong Kong in which ten thousand pigeons were set free, in additon to the occasional geographical associations with the places where wild pigeons are currently staying.
In Yim Sui-fong’s investigation of the history of Hong Kong’s pigeons, these associations are comparable to a visual-oriented dialogue between birds and people. By means of parallel editing, the film integrates field trips, interviews and an imaginative semi-fictional narrative, while giving a side view of the identity, mental state and imagination of a place.
